November 9, 2007
One of the more common questions that people have when it comes to anxiety attacks is, how do I know if it’s an anxiety attack or just too much stress? And that’s a great question because of how important it is to tell the difference. Here’s a closer look at the answer.
It can often be difficult to tell the difference between stress and anxiety attacks because of how closely related they are and the fact that being overly stressed can lead to an attack.
Many people actually have anxiety attacks and don’t even know they are having one. It’s from not understanding what the symptoms. But for those who have had repeated attacks, you not only recognize the symptoms, but you can tell when an attack is about to strike.
Stress generally builds throughout the day to a peak point. It could be a stressed out day at the office or the kids have gotten on your nerves to the point you are feeling overly stressed out.
On the other hand, an anxiety attack is a lot more intense. It can strike suddenly at any point in the day. Often times it can come on for no apparent reason. In fact, it is estimated that anxiety attacks will occur in one out of three Americans in their lifetime. Some of the symptoms of an anxiety attack include:
-Extreme difficulty in breathing and even the feelings of gasping for breath
-Rapid heartbeat to where it feels like your heart is going to explode.
-Shaking
-Out of control feelings
-A sense of dying in extreme cases
These are just some of the symptoms of an attack, but as you can see, they are much more severe than being stressed out.
Knowing the difference between being under stress and having an anxiety attack is important, but so is taking the necessary steps to reduce the symptoms. There are many methods that can help with the symptoms and even eliminate future attacks from happening in many instances. It’s well worth looking into.
