Procrastination

June 30, 2006

Do you ever need to do something and procrastinate about it?  And then get on your own case for procrastinating?  Well, I do, and I think most of us do.  It is in times like that when we need to be patient with ourselves.  Don’t beat yourself up about it, but get on the wagon and do your best to do the things you set your mind out to do.  You’ll feel better in the long run.  I’m not saying pressure yourself, just use the energy that you have to make your life a fuller and richer experience.

Another Week

June 27, 2006

I’ve been working so hard these last two months and am hoping that all will be well from my hard work.  I am praying for good results.  My most present project aside from this blog is my film, the story about how I got sick from BP and how I got well and stay well.  That is the story I want to share with the world.  That is my dream.  We have to follow our dreams, with all of our hearts.  That is what gives life meaning.

Working Bipolar

June 21, 2006

The last six weeks or so have been amazing.  Getting this site going, working with my best friend of 22 years on another project, and just living in the meantime.  It’s wonderful to work and see great potential ahead.  And at the same time, it’s so very important to stay centered and present so nothing is missed.  Other than smoking cigarettes, I’m taking great care of myself.  Sleeping, however, has become difficult.  I’m not manic now, but so excited about what I’m working on, that it’s hard to shut of my mind at night.  Oh, well, a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do!  Talk to you soon!

The Weekend

June 17, 2006

Weekends were made for resting.  Yes, some of us have to work the weekend, especially when we’re working on a new project or if our schedule schedules us for the Saturday and/or Sunday shift.  But, it’s important to take a weekend anyway, even if it’s not on Saturday or Sunday.  Take at least one day a week to relax, re-energise and get yourself together.  Rest, eat, drink good fluids and take care of yourself.  That’s priority number 1!

A Day Off

June 16, 2006

Well, I took yesterday off, after working the last couple of weeks straight without a breather.  It was a great day.  Had a couple of beers with my cousin and watched the water in the river pass by.  Yesterday reminded me of how much it’s important to stop and breathe, especially if one has bipolar disorder, for with bipolar disorder it’s easy to get caught up in the wave of work and forget about life.

A Bipolar Day

June 14, 2006

What a day!!!  Although I am religiously taking my medication, I got carried away today in my work, forgetting to take time to eat well during my day.  I need to remember that treating bipolar disorder is much more than just taking pills…it’s about a lifestyle of care.  Please take time to post at this site - let’s help each other live through this illness…and not let it take our lives.

The Game of Poker…and Life

June 12, 2006

I love poker. Texas Hold ‘Em is my poker game of choice, but I’ll play any type- Video Poker, Omaha, it doesn’t matter. However, most Poker tournaments are Hold ‘Em and I’ve learned to play the game well. I’ve also learned not only a lot about poker, but a lot about life just by playing poker. Even though I’m just learning the lessons to transfer from the game of poker to the game of life, I wanted to share them in the hopes of not only helping myself, but hopefully helping others see things in a new way. Is There A Connection Between Diet And Bipolar Disorder?

June 12, 2006

There has recently been a lot of speculation about the
relationship between what we eat, and mood disorders like ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. The main focus of this speculation is on the Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids.

It seems that everyone is jumping on the Omega-3 Band Wagon, including many in the medical field. It is a fact that the human brain requires Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids to function properly. Around 20% of all the fat in our brain is made from the Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids. Does this fact alone present any evidence that Omega-3 Fatty Acids can help with disorders like ADHD or Bipolar Disorder? Read more

The Appearance of Disability - What Does Disability Look Like After All?

June 12, 2006

I found a remark on a blog recently and the remark basically said this (I’m paraphrasing): “I’m tired of people who aren’t disabled but try to get benefits from the government”.

I guess it goes without saying that, today, we live in a fairly judgmental climate. And regarding individuals with disabilities, perhaps it has always been that way. However, for those who think like the person who made the statement above, consider the fact that many individuals with disabilities have conditions that allow them to work, but only on a limited basis, or for short durations. In other words, just because you see someone at the grocery store pushing a cart, don’t assume that they’re not being truthful about being disabled. For all you really know,
after making a short trip to the store, they may be flat on
their back when they get home, and in a considerable amount of discomfort. Read more

How To Identify And Treat Manic Depression Symtoms

June 12, 2006

For those that are suffering from manic depression symptoms, there is little good that they see or feel. Manic depression is much different from that of clinical depression.
